One Word Photo Challenge: Chartreuse

Photos taken on my phone for Jennifer’s One Word Photo Challenge: Chartreuse

I had no idea Chartreuse was yellow-green, until this challenge. It sounded like a red, crimson purple to me! Found on my walk this morning – a grey day, cool, but no frost this morning.

The flowers on this succulent will open a pretty yellow, but at the moment they qualify for yellow-green.

Since posting this, I have discovered that the colour originates from  a liqueur made in the Chartreuse Mountains at the Grande Chartreuse monastery, in France, by Carthusian Monks – from a recipe given them in 1605.  The name first used as a colour in 1884.  Check out Wikipedia.
