I love peppercorn trees. This one appeared in our garden years ago. I am unsure if a bird brought the seed or it arrived with a rosemary bush I planted in that spot.  It looked like it was dying a few years back, but this year it has more leaves and may even produce peppercorns.

  1. We had 2 huge peppercorn trees at the back of our house when I was growing up. When I was about 18 I went to a dance in town and the boy who brought me home got his car bogged near one of them as he drove off the track. My father gave me such a hard time (in jest) for months afterwards suggesting that we were “canoodling” under the tree… which we were not. It’s a really fond memory for me.

  2. Glad to prompt a fond memory for you. We had a big one in our yard too, in one of the placest I lived the longest when I was a kid — we must have been there all of five years, renting an old farmhouse, before we loaded up and did the moonlight flit. Ahh, to be 18 again. I married for the first time when I was barely 18, and I thought I was so mature. I think I actually matured at about 35, but I’m only guessing … well, I am getting older, anyway. I love the smell of pepppercorn trees.
