Over at Travel Tales Of Life Sue has some photos of magnificent Big Things. In the comments Australia’s fetish with Big Things was mentioned so I thought I would pop some pictures up here for your enjoyment.
First The Big Merino at Goulburn, New South Wales. You can read about it here and see the current picture of the giant merino ram wearing a giant scarf! These are scans of the postcards I purchased since I doubted I could do it justice with the camera. A day and a night view.

Biggest Merino in the world, standing 15.2 meters in height and weighing in at 97 tonne.
I’ve just discovered that the Merino was actually relocated 800 metres in 2007, when after it was stranded by the Goulburn bypass. So this is the old location. Historic pictures folks! I purchased the postcards in July 1986 while on a bus tour to Sydney to see the musical ‘Cats’.
(Added later) In 2013, 100-120 people knitted a gigantic scarf for the ram in celebration of Goulburn’s 150th birthday celebrations. It took 12 people to piece the knitted portions together. Made from about 25kg of 8 ply acrylic (about 7000 metres). The local paper has a gallery of putting the scarf in place. See Goulburn Post.
