Jennifer’s One Word Photo Challenge: Mint
I have no excuse for the lack of mint sauce at my house! I refuse to buy it, since it is so easily made. But I never seem to get around to it. I’ve never tried iced mint tea, either, which sounds very refreshing.
Added later: reminders of the minty drinks for me to try: Moroccan mint tea; mint julep; mojito; and cucumber mint juice (see comments).

Moroccan mint tea, also called Tuareg tea, or Mint tea or Maghrebi mint tea

Hi Christine 🙂
Have you tried mint and cucumber juice before? It’s a refreshing drink especially in hot weather. Give it a go and tell me what you think!

I’ve heard of it, Raja, but never tried it. Come the hot weather (which Sue tells me is coming) I’ll give it a go. 🙂

I do stick it in potato salad, Barbara, if I think of it. I’ll try more stuff. It is rampant, here. 😀

It’s a nice shot of the yummy herb; but I don’t believe you made any effort with this challenge, woman ! I mean, if you took every title literally, it would be a boring photographic world.
Come now, me old china plate: be more innovative !

If you look hard, surely there must be a hint of the right colour in the among the leaves, M-R! 😀 But it isn’t strictly a colour challenge, it’s whatever comes to mind. Yeah, piss weak, okay, got it!

Absolutely LOVE mint sauce. Love the smell of fresh mint. Peppermint tea is very refreshing. Never really tried it in much else, not game to try just in case it puts me off mint. Tho don’t some Americans drink Mint Julep, whatever that is.

Hi Sue,
wikipedia says …
“The mint julep is a mixed alcoholic drink, or cocktail, consisting primarily of bourbon (or some other spirit) and fresh mint. As a bourbon-based cocktail, it is associated with the American South and the cuisine of the Southern United States in general, and the Kentucky Derby in particular.”
I have some minty flavoured green teabags I’d forgotten about. It’s okay. I’ll let youse all know when I try it. That julep stuff sounds okay too!

Oh, I am jealous of your mint supply, Christine! Last year we started a trip in Morocco where we drank copious amounts of mint tea and finished it in Dubai where we fell in love with the mint lemonade. I vowed to grow masses of mint to enjoy these drinks at home but just haven’t managed it. In the market in Fes, they would sell bunches as big as a small child!

It’s practically a weed at every home I’ve lived in. Watch out for a plant at your local market, or reach over a fence one day. You’ll be glad you did! They thrive in a moist spot.

I was trying to think where I could put it as much of our yard is exposed but I’ve just thought of somewhere with the added bonus that it’s contained so it won’t spread too far. 🙂

Thank you for sharing!! M-R’s comments aside 😛 Love all the food and drink options people are offering up- I never thought of using mint in so many things. You will have to share how these things turn out, when and if you try them 🙂

The bartender in me is screaming MOJITOS!!
A few year’s ago I planted mint JUST for the sole purpose of making mojitos. Yeah, I know. I have issues.

I can’t blame you Joanne – I had to look it up. I might just try this at Christmas, perhaps? 😀
For the others, Wikipedia says…..
Traditionally, a mojito is a cocktail that consists of five ingredients: white rum, sugar (traditionally sugar cane juice), lime juice, sparkling water, and mint… The original Cuban recipe uses spearmint or yerba buena, a mint variety very popular on the island.[citation needed] Its combination of sweetness, refreshing citrus, and mint flavors is intended to complement the potent kick of the rum, and have made this clear highball a popular summer drink… The cocktail has a relatively low alcohol content (about 10 percent alcohol by volume).
When preparing a mojito, lime juice is added to sugar (or syrup) and mint leaves. The mixture is then gently mashed with a muddler. The mint leaves should only be bruised to release the essential oils and should not be shredded. … Then rum is added and the mixture is briefly stirred to dissolve the sugar and to lift the mint leaves up from the bottom for better presentation. Finally, the drink is topped with whole ice cubes and sparkling soda water. Mint leaves and lime wedges are used to garnish the glass…
The mojito is one of the most famous rum-based highballs. There are several versions of the mojito.

Mint actually takes over the yard if you have it in the right spot. I love mint, but did I EVER use the mint that grew profusely along one side of my house? You know the answer. Your ideas sound fabulous! 🙂

LOL. It’s because it’s always there, you keep putting it off. The drinks do sound very appealing. 😀
