Cee’s Share Your World – 2015 Week #2.
Are you a hugger or a non-hugger? Hugger … now. I wasn’t born that way, but Mr Ex’s sister and sister-in-law are huggers and I got used to it . I’d be leaving my mum in Adelaide, and I started feeling awkward about just giving her a kiss on the cheek. After a few years I said goodbye with a hug and she looked so surprised, but pleased too. Now she expects it. Yes, I’m a hugger.
What’s your favorite ice-cream flavor? Easy, Rum and Raisin. Adore it! Haven’t had it for years. I never think to make my own ice-cream.
Do you prefer exercising your mind or your body? How frequently do you do either? I always feel satisfied after one of my infrequent bouts of housework or gardening. I’m even getting used to a half hour on the treadmill most days and I love walking. But I prefer to exercise my mind. My brain was getting a good workout while I was spending all my free time on family history – both looking into mine and searching other people’s lines. Years and years of entering facts and figures into my database. Last year, my mind has stretched even further, once I discovered MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses). I’ve signed up for a few too many again this year. I’m revisiting some I didn’t complete or even start. I’m also doing a class on academic writing so I can cope with the written essay assignments. You know, presenting arguments and such, damn critical thinking! 😮
Are you more of a dog person or a cat person? Why? Cat person, for sure. I love Vika, my little dog – but I grew up with cats and one day I fully intend to have a cat again. When I’m retired, and done travelling.
Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?
I’m grateful that my visit to the doctor last week revealed that my blood pressure is even better than it was the time before. Also, the ultrasound I had Dec 29th on a big lump near my spine ( first noticed in 2009) confirmed it was only a cyst and we’ll leave it well alone unless it begins to bother me. (It has been looked at by a doctor before, but he never said anything about it, apart to say it was nothing to worry about.) How big? I can hear you wondering from here! My discrete lipoma is 5.9 x 3.8 x 1.2 centimetres.
I’m looking forward to getting lots of writing done this coming week. It finally dawned on me NOT to have a quick look at my blog or emails BEFORE writing. So when I turn on the computer I pull the internet plug. That has worked fine the last two mornings and I’m getting a bit done. To get in the mood I’ve fiddled with what is there until I move on. I’ve also abandoned doing my exercise straight after the dog walk, followed by breakfast. Now I walk the dog, breakfast, then write. Okay, so it’s only been two times … 😀 I’m looking forward to making it work.
Such interesting answers, Christine. As to rum raisin ice cream, that is also my husband’s favorite. I never liked it much before him (was there ever a time before him, I ask myself?), but now I like it very much too. I’m sending you a BIG HUG. So glad that thing on your spine is okay.

Rum & raisin ice cream is also my favourite! Sadly, I must confess that it is only a few weeks since I last tasted it (I don’t have much self control where rum & raisin ice cream is concerned) …

Hello Paula, if I come across those big cans of ice-cream all laid out in a row, it only takes one look at the stack of cones and I have to have a double header! Fortunately I’m not exposed often! I’ll wander over to your blog later and read about the adding of sheep to your farm (after I do my housework). 🙂

Great answers, Christine. How to you find the time for the Online Courses as well as writing your book and doing so much on your blog? Do you ever go to bed? No need to answer that! Haha! As for ice cream, I’ve always preferred just plain vanilla – or perhaps Cornish, which is a very rich type of vanilla. Glad to hear the lump was only a cyst.

It’s a battle I usually lose, Millie, but this year I’m more organized (yeah, sure) and I’m not fussed if I only audit courses, instead of doing essays. It’s usually the ones on Coursera that demand a lot of participation. I’m usually in bed every night about 9pm, but I read until the eyes close. Mornings are getting earlier, and I either read or catch up on MOOCs on the laptap before I get up anytime after 8am. I don’t work much, Millie, I have a lot of free time. 🙂 Cornish? I think I know that yummy rich vanillery flavour you mean.

Fascinating answers, Christine. I especially like the last paragraph. I need to fine tune my schedule as my writing is suffering. I get up a half-hour earlier each day (never sleep in anymore) and still can’t get everything done. Maybe I’ll try unplugging the internet first thing in the morning trick. Sigh.

The internet ban works, Tess. Knowing it is your reward spurs you on to get the writing out of the way, and once you begin it doesn’t take long for the desire to write kicks in. I only had a short stint today as I’ve scheduled housework. Actually, it was scheduled yesterday, but … you know. 😀 Yeah, pulling the plug works, because how often do you tell yourself you’ll just look up a better word on the internet instead of pulling out the heavy dictionary? And then one thing leads to another – hey, just a quick look at the emails to see if someone has commented on my blog, gee, the title of that post looks interesting, may as well catch up on this blog while I’m here, and so on. 😮

I know. I meant to start the day off right this morning. I read the paper. Ugh. I should cut that out, but then I wouldn’t know what’s going on in the world. In 45 minutes, I’m out the door to go walking with a friend. We both NEED it. First day. Let’s see what happens when I return home. Grr.
You ARE an inspiration. 🙂

Your all mean talking about ice-cream. As I’ve aged I’ve become lactose intolerant, that means no ice-cream, cream, custard, milk etc. (used to love Strawberry, especially the one that had bits of real strawberry in). Treat myself to a gelato one every now and then, but it’s not the same. Yes, a quick kiss was the usual. My husband is Macedonian and all his relatives give a hug and kiss both cheeks, so after a while got used to it. When you think about it, it is more hygienic than shaking someone’s hand, you don’t know what it has been in contact with, or if they had washed it.

Shame about the icecream, Sue. Handshakes? Now that you mention it. 😮 I never eat nuts and stuff like that at parties, where everyone sticks their fingers in … well, I try not to. 😀

Hugging is wonderful, I bet it’s made your life better! 😉
Should have got my stuff together and posted this week’s questions! I’m glad to hear you’re doing well and healthier, woo hoo. And good luck with ALL your classes.
Good point about writing and not worrying about what’s happening in the blog-o-sphere. I’ve been super slacking on my writing for over a week now largely because I don’t just make myself sit down and do it. I always open up WordPress and that becomes hours of reading, responding, commenting…blogging is a chore sometimes. 🙂 I’m going to take this as a hint and get some writing done tonight. Thanks.

I like the idea of disconnecting your internet before writing. An author at a writers’ panel said she has 2 laptops ( lucky for her), and the one she writes on has no internet access on it at all! So, how did your writing week go? I’m still a few weeks off yet…Feeling less and less like a writer every day…

Yeah, Lorelle, you have to keep at it every day. I managed to write five days, for 2111 words, got a bit busy with work and then a migraine made my brain mushy for a few days. Laziness set in. 197 words yesterday, but I deleted 80 this morning. I’m trying again later. I think I’m going OK, though. I’ve done 100,000 words, but some of those are now in book two. I’ve identified the halfway point of book 1, and know what I have to do… I think. 😀
