Wet walk this morning

Wet today, but luckily it was dry enough for our walk this morning. I’m experimenting with the brightness on my phone camera. The photos have been a bit gloomy. Love how these ones turned out.

Busy today catching up on repeating the Effective Writing MOOC at Coursera. Third time – the names and functions of the parts of speech are sinking in better.

  1. The reflection of the tree in the puddle is lovely, Christine, and I love the remnants of the oak leaves in the second picture. You seem rather busy with that writing course at the moment – hope you’re still finding time to write your second book.

    • Oh, Millie, [sigh] I’ve burnt my new chapters – I read the print-out one night and they were horrible. I haven’t written since.

      I have to move past just rewriting and polishing the scenes I already have and start afresh – using the same premise and improving the characters. It will need re-plotting / outlining. I got really annoyed with myself, but once I decided to start over with a blank project, it felt like a weight had lifted. Oh well, they say you need to write a million words to be any good, so that’s about 150,000 out of the way. I made a mistake moving the beginning of the story back in time by a month – it’s held me back, too. All the new scenes were supposed to meld with the old start, but it ended up horribly stilted.

      I’m not giving up. Something will rise out of the ashes. 😀

    The colors seem quite lively for a rainy day. We have had the rainiest summer I can remember for this area. I am tired of the gloominess,,,We lived in Evergreen, Colorado for 17 years and they have sun 360 days a year…that is reversed, this year, here in Columbus, Ohio., USA

    • We’re having a cold snap at the moment, Carol Ann, but not as bad as the media made out – though it is snowing in places where it is a rare – yesterday didn’t get above 6 Centigrade. With the photo, I was fortunate that the only sunny bit of the day presented itself, and the colours are aided by my boosting the brightness factor on the camera before taking it (though I don’t know by how far because I didn’t have my glasses with me). The colours look more like what I see myself, than if I hadn’t changed the setting. No wonder you are frustrated – it’s summer there!

    Nothing better in the country than after it has rained, everything is so fresh smelling. Who cares about a few puddles or drips from the leaves finding their way down the back of your collar.

  5. I’m sorry to hear about your problems with your book, but believe me, I know how it feels. I probably told you that my first book (Shadow) was originally written as a fantasy. It took me a long time to take all the fantasy out and patch the rest of the story together and make it flow. It’s just a question of perseverance (and seriously trying not to kill yourself in beteen!) You’ll get there, in the end. I was happier with my second attempt than I had been with the first, and you probably will be with your. Take care… MIllie
