Spotted these Grey Teal ducks while on our walk yesterday. Sharing some of the seventeen shots I took.

I’m not sure I’ve identified Grey Teal ducks before – it hangs out in Australia and New Zealand and sometimes ventures further abroad.

They weren’t perturbed by me, but only because I think they were concentrating on each other. Male and female Grey Teal ducks look much the same. The bill is dark green, though it looks blue here. The eye is red.  One of our smaller ducks, apparently.

Thanks for looking.

Anas gracilis: Grey Teal

Image

This walk, from the 26th July, is mainly birds and bunnies. We did walk to the Caledonia Gully Reservoir today, but I took nearly 100 photos on our 7 km and I was too pooped to sort them.  This one is a shorter walk, barely a kilometre, close to home.

First, just over the footbridge, I checked a low lying wattle for bees. Saw a fly, first.

Not many bees, though. And it is more on the clover than on the wattle blossom.

While walking up Argyle Street, the sticky beak cockatoo checked on us.

Wednesday Walk

Birds ‘n Bunnies

Image

My bird book – ‘The Slater Field Guide to Australian Birds‘ – managed to confuse me when I made a quick identity check on these Eastern Rosellas before posting.  The damned book shows the wrong undercarriage – very little green and no red undertail at all.

So there I was, confronted with the wrong-coloured picture – trying to decide if  what I had photographed were a hybrid Crimson and Eastern Rosella.

I couldn’t see how, for the Crimson Rosella has blue cheeks.  Duhhh.

These photos were taken with the Nikon D3000  on our walk yesterday ( a mere kilometre). Not the best pics in the world, but I don’t usually get the chance to aim the camera, let alone snap a few, with these ones.

Thanks for looking. Hope you’re having a beaut weekend.
