Seriously, that is the name of this wonderful little beetle I found on the bricks out front: named for the two lines of white across his wings.  Check out the bright orange eyes, the pink and black legs.  😮

Apparently they like to chomp on gum leaves, but I couldn’t find any more in the trees. Wouldn’t you know it, as soon as I started seeking out insects to snap, the blighters vanish! Crap photos, but hey – you don’t see one of these every day.

(Reblogged) A Heartening Tip for Homebodies

I found these admirable words on Paige’s blog.
“It is in us that scenery is scenic.”
-Fernando Pessoa. The Book of Disquiet.

Travel? One need only exist to travel. I go from day to day, as from station to station, in the train of my body or my destiny, leaning out over the streets and squares, over people’s faces and gestures, always the same and always different, just like scenery.

It is in us that scenery is scenic. If I imagine it, I create it; if I create it, it exists; if it exists, then I see it like any other scenery.

Life is what we make of it. Travel is the traveller. What we see isn’t what we see but what we are.

-Fernando Pessoa. The Book of Disquiet.
