Sheep

Hello again. I have some time up my sleeve before popping out to work so sharing some sheep photos I took last night. The setting sun was outlining them really nicely, but by the time I fetched the camera, it was too late, and they moved. These two live in the paddock across the lane from me. Their fleece looks really stroke-able at the moment.

I presume the dark patches are from rubbing against burnt timber or from bedding down in ash and coals – the neighbour’s have a bonfire every year when they tidy the paddock.

Thanks for looking!

yum – sorry, shouldn’t say that. They look very inquisitive, or maybe just thinking “oh here she goes again with the camera, lucky I went to the beauty parlour”

  2. These look like Wiltshire Horns, Christine — the meat sheep we breed ourselves. They shed their wool by rubbing it off against fences, trees, etc. during the summer months then grow it again during autumn ready for the cold winter months.

They all seem to have these black spots, which I believe are just additional melanin in their skins (the skin is dark under the spots).

    These two are very handsome!

    • Thanks for the info about the black spots -I’d never noticed before. And these do shed their wool. They certainly look like meat sheep. I must pay attention to yours next time I’m on your blog. Thanks for droping by, Paula.
