Spotted this colourful Crimson Rosella whilst walking the back lanes last week.

Until I processed the images, I didn’t realise he was perched on a bundle of old fencing wire, eating a rose hip.

I missed out on a wonderful shot as he flew right towards me, before veering right. A lovely splash of brightness on a dull day.

Crimson Rosella

Since I haven’t taken any decent cat pictures recently, I’m sharing these from April last. This particular cat is a real prowler, oozing predator in each step.  I couldn’t get the whole cat in the frame, since I have the longer lens on the Nikon D3000, but the image has a certain charm, the way ginger tabby saunters down the centre towards me, as if I’m not even there.

I’ve yet to see any of these cats from next door playing with prey, as well-fed cats will do. So far, only one pile of feathers in my yard has torn my heart. They do an excellent job keeping down rodents, and I do feel safer from seasonal snakes. But most of all, I’m just a sucker for cats. Love ’em. No matter what they look like.

Across the highway from our place, there is a gorgeous red-flowering gum tree. The other day, I was lucky enough to spot some Red Wattlebirds on our return from walking in the Heathcote-Graytown National Park.

This is one of the larger wattlebirds, at 31-39 cms in length (roughly 12 – 15 1/2 inches).

In recent comments, M-R was quite positive bird bums are worth seeing, and I have to admit this is one of the best I’ve managed in all my bum shots. Such a beautiful yellow underneath. A tiny bit of curved honeyeater bill can be seen, too.

I could’ve lurked for more photos, but Mr. R. looked impatient to get home. (Nikon D3000)
