The last week or so, I’ve spotted several of these Caper White Butterflies in my yard. They seemed to favour the bottlebrush over the Dusty Miller but it was hard to catch them still for very long.
Like the Jezebel from a few posts ago, this one is plain black-and-white on the upper wings, too.

I found the plastic identification tag for the silvery plant with the purple flowers: centaurea gymnocarpa. The two I have are the Dusty Miller, growing 80 cm high with a spread of 1.2 metres. I reckon the one in my front side garden is larger than that. The one up the back has been flattened by the wind somewhat and is nowhere near as impressive.

We’re having a cloudy day today, warm with promise of a late shower. Out with the Nikon D3000 earlier, this Red-spotted Jezebel butterfly conveniently landed in the bottlebrush right by me.
