Wet Stuff

Today, as I write, the rain is  a persistent heavy drizzle, and the outdoor temperature about 16 C.  Yesterday was a lovely 31 C.   The 36 hours earlier produced an inch of rain (25mm).

Before it all began, we had a glorious sunset.WP_20150110_019The next day, I had to put a raincoat on to take the dog for her walk.WP_20150110_002Constant bubbles rose to the surface of the puddles, as air in the soil was displaced.WP_20150110_004But the ants knew more was to come …  I’ve never seen nest ramparts built so high. The pine cone was already there, it wasn’t a prop.WP_20150111_010The wet brought the snails out … nearly stepped on this pair.snail pairVika loved her walk, as usual, no matter the weather. She would love to get a closer look at the honey stall across the road on the weekends. Honey mainly, but eggs, tomatoes and horse manure too.WP_20150110_006All photos taken with the Nokia phone camera, on auto.

An English Country Garden

I’ve caught up a bit on Su Leslie’s blog  I must find out why she calls it Zimmerbitch. 🙂  Su shares gorgeous photographs and often shares words of wisdom, too. There, I enjoyed this song by Jimmie Rodgers: An English Country Garden.  I want to keep it handy. Posted on YouTube by NedNickerson2010.

There is a little bit of this colour towards the top of the Kniphofia (Red Hot Poker). I planted three of these bulbs the year before last. This is the first proper flowering.

BELOW: These blossoms are a better colour match. Does anyone know the name of the shrub? [DONE: Abelia, from the honeysuckle family of plants]
